Milen Manoj Earath
Milen Manoj Earath was born in the southern Indian state of Kerala, to a family of doctors with no formal musical background. He began playing piano after a formative visit to his grandparents in Russia, where he first encountered classical music. On returning to India, he began formal training and progressed rapidly through Trinity College London’s graded piano curriculum, completing all eight grades and earning the ATCL, LTCL, and FTCL diplomas with distinction by 2015. Notably, he became the youngest Indian pianist to achieve these qualifications in just 4.5 years, one of the fastest progressions recorded by the institution.
Milen made his competition debut in 2013, aged 12, winning the advanced division at MusiQuest in Pune. The following year, he received the Audience Favorite Prize and was a semi-finalist at Conbrio in Mumbai. Following these competitions, he was invited to study with Prof. Heribert Koch (President of the European Piano Teachers Association), attending regular masterclasses in Germany and continuing independent study in India. Since then, he has performed in Germany, Russia, Belgium, and Italy.
Milen gave his first solo recital in 2016 at Schloss Burgau, Germany and made his orchestral debut later that year performing Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No 1. In 2017, he gave a major solo recital at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai and performed for Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium at the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation. In 2018, he performed Liszt’s Piano Concerto No 2 with Collegium Musicum Jülich under conductor Peter Sauerwein at the Gymnasium Zitadelle in Jülich.
Milen was awarded the national child award for exceptional achievements in the field of music by President of India Pranab Mukherjee in November 2016 at Rashtrapathi Bhavan.
Milen completed a five-year Specialist Diploma in Piano Performance in 2024 with Prof. Tatiana Zelikman at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, Moscow. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Performance at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, studying with Prof. Ronan O’Hora. He is supported by scholarships from Steinway & Sons, the Leverhulme Arts Trust, and the Jesse Wakefield Bursary.
